About The BKG
The Beneficial Knowledge Group (The BKG) is a Massachusetts-based consulting, training, and staffing firm that strengthens the systems, controls, and teams organizations rely on to deliver their mission. We serve government agencies, NGOs, universities, medical and research centers, and private companies in the US and internationally, including French speaking countries.

The Role
The Auditor leads The BKG’s consulting engagements from planning through final reporting. As engagement lead, the Auditor works with the CPA Expert and the functional Senior Consultants in finance, HR, procurement, operations, and IT, who carry out their work under a common engagement plan. The Auditor integrates their contributions into one holistic, well-informed result and is accountable for the quality and rigor of every report The BKG issues.

Engagements cover strategic planning, organizational development, change management, and stakeholder engagement; project management, process improvement, risk management, and performance measurement and evaluation; and specialized assessments of internal controls, compliance, and policies, manuals, and SOPs. They range from a single activity to an entire organization, and from assessment and recommendations to hands-on guidance through implementation. Not every engagement is a review: the Auditor may also lead advisory engagements that help clients redesign, reconfigure, or transition to a new organizational model.

We are looking for a seasoned professional with extensive audit, review, evaluation, and assessment experience and strong client advisory skills.

Key Responsibilities

Engagement leadership and planning
• Plan each engagement with the CPA Expert and Senior Consultants, defining objectives, approach, methodology, timeline, team, and information requests
• Set the common methodology, risk rating scale, working paper standards, and report format used across all fields
• Confirm independence and manage conflicts of interest before each engagement
• Serve as the primary point of contact for client management, Boards, and funders

Holistic consulting and assessment
• Lead engagements in strategic planning, organizational development, change management, and stakeholder engagement
• Oversee project management, process improvement, risk management, and performance measurement and evaluation work, in line with frameworks such as COSO and ISO 31000
• Lead specialized assessments of internal controls, segregation of duties, delegation of authority, and compliance, in line with COSO, the International Standards on Auditing, the IIA Global Internal Audit Standards, US Single Audit requirements, and OHADA Uniform Acts
• Assess cross-cutting risks, including fraud, corruption, conflict of interest, safeguarding, and data protection, applying professional skepticism throughout
• Escalate suspected irregularities or misconduct to The BKG CEO without delay

Transformation and advisory engagements
• Lead and coordinate engagements that help clients restructure, merge, decentralize, adopt new operating models, or manage major system changes
• Shape the transition roadmap with the CPA Expert and Senior Consultants, building governance, controls, and accountability into the new model from the start
• Engage Boards, staff, funders, and partners throughout the transition, and track progress against agreed milestones

Reporting and presentation
• Coordinate the final report, consolidating findings from all teams into one coherent document that states condition, criteria, cause, effect, risk rating, and recommendation for each risk or gap
• Review each section for accuracy, evidence, consistency, and tone
• Submit the report to The BKG CEO for sign-off, then present findings to the client together with The BKG CEO or leadership

Implementation guidance
• Ensure every recommendation comes with practical, prioritized, and time-bound implementation guidelines
• When required, oversee and advise client staff on implementing corrective actions, working alongside them; client staff remain responsible for carrying out the work

Team coordination and quality assurance
• Coordinate the multidisciplinary team of independent consultants, agreeing on the division of work and reviewing contributions for consistency and quality

Key Deliverables
• Engagement plan, common methodology, and information request list
• Reviewed and consolidated working papers for all fields
• Final report with findings, recommendations, and implementation guidelines, signed off by The BKG CEO
• Client presentation materials and record of agreed actions
• Implementation oversight notes, when applicable

Service Standards
• A thorough, well-informed, and evidence-based process on every assignment
• Clear, concise, executive-level findings and recommendations
• Excellent mastery of US and international rules, including those of French speaking countries
• Irreproachable professionalism, integrity, objectivity, and confidentiality

Qualifications

Required
• 12+ years of extensive audit, review, evaluation, and assessment experience, including external, internal, compliance, or grant audits, organizational assessments, and program evaluations, with at least 5 years leading multidisciplinary engagements, in the US and/or internationally
• Extensive experience advising client management and Boards on audit, review, and assessment results, strategy, internal controls, risk, and corrective action
• CIA, CPA, CFE, CISA, or international equivalent (ACCA, Chartered Accountant, or Diplôme d’Expertise Comptable)
• Mastery of COSO, ISO 31000, the International Standards on Auditing, the IIA Global Internal Audit Standards, 2 CFR 200, and OHADA Uniform Acts
• Excellent ability to consolidate complex findings into clear, executive-level reports
• Full professional proficiency in English; ability to read French fluently and communicate in conversational French
• Bachelor’s degree or international equivalent (such as a Licence) in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field; Master’s degree or equivalent (such as a Master 2 or DESS) preferred
• Availability to travel domestically and internationally when engagements require

Preferred
• Experience with organizations in the US and/or internationally, including French speaking countries, across the public, non-profit, academic, and private sectors
• Knowledge of USAID and other US federal funders, the Gates Foundation and other philanthropic organizations, and multilateral funders such as the EU, UN agencies, and the World Bank
• Financial systems such as SAP, Oracle, Microsoft Dynamics, NetSuite, Sage, or QuickBooks, and analytics tools such as IDEA, ACL, or advanced Excel
• PMP or PMD Pro certification

Engagement Terms
• Independent consultant on The BKG roster (1099 for US-based consultants, or equivalent status abroad), engaged per assignment under a separate consulting agreement. This is not an employment relationship.
• Consultants may accept or decline any assignment, control the methods, means, and hours of their work, and remain free to serve other clients, subject to conflict of interest and confidentiality requirements. They are not entitled to employee benefits.
• Compensation: a daily fee equal to the consultant rate negotiated and agreed in writing with The BKG for each assignment.

Travel, Per Diem, and Travel Costs
• Domestic and international travel is a strong possibility on most engagements, but it is not guaranteed.
• For each day of authorized travel, consultants receive a per diem at GSA rates within the US or U.S. Department of State rates abroad.
• Approved travel costs, such as airfare, ground transportation, visa fees, and required vaccinations, are paid or reimbursed by The BKG.
• Per diem and travel costs are paid in addition to the negotiated fee.

Equipment and Insurance
• Consultants provide their own work equipment, including a secure laptop, mobile phone, and reliable internet access.
• Consultants arrange their own health coverage (including medical evacuation), travel insurance, and general and professional liability insurance, and handle their own taxes and statutory obligations.

Code of Conduct
All consultants sign and comply with The BKG Code of Conduct. The BKG has zero tolerance for sexual exploitation, abuse, and harassment. Client information is handled in strict confidence, and conflicts of interest must be disclosed before deployment.
