About The BKG
The Beneficial Knowledge Group (The BKG) is a Massachusetts-based consulting, training, and staffing firm that strengthens the systems, controls, and teams organizations rely on to deliver their mission. We serve government agencies, NGOs, universities, medical and research centers, and private companies in the US and internationally, including French speaking countries.
The Role
The HR Senior Consultant leads the human resources component of each BKG engagement. The role covers the full range of The BKG’s HR services: workforce planning, HR structures and culture, change management, HR processes, HR risk, HR performance, and HR controls, compliance, and policies. Engagements range from a single activity to an entire organization, and from assessment and recommendations to hands-on guidance through implementation.
Working alongside the Engagement Lead and, depending on the size and complexity of the scope, a small team, you will deliver sound advisory, assessment, and evaluation work in tandem with the other functional teams. You will provide the Engagement Lead with clear and concise findings, recommendations, and implementation guidelines for the final report. Findings are presented to the client by The BKG CEO or leadership and the Engagement Lead, and you may contribute to findings meetings.
Not every engagement is a review: you may also lead the HR activities of advisory engagements that help clients redesign, reconfigure, or transition to a new organizational model.
Key Responsibilities
Consulting role
• Lead the HR component across The BKG’s consulting services, focusing on human resources while supporting the wider engagement team and The BKG mission
• Assess the client’s HR function, including structures, staffing models, HR capacity, workplace climate, and HR systems, and identify strengths, gaps, and priorities
• Review the soundness of HR policies, processes, controls, contracts, payroll, and personnel records, and set the review approach for the HR Consultant and HR Officer
• Advise the client on HR strategy, policy, compensation structures, safeguarding, and workplace environment
• Help the client implement approved improvements by overseeing and advising client staff, so that the HR function and overall operations become stronger
Transformation and advisory engagements
• Lead the HR activities of engagements that help clients restructure, merge, decentralize, or adopt new operating models
• Design the future HR function model, transition roadmap, and sequencing, and guide leaders and staff through the change
• Engage Boards, staff, funders, and partners throughout the transition, and track progress against agreed milestones
Strategic and organizational advisory
• Advise on strategic workforce planning so that staffing, skills, and HR budgets support the client’s strategic plan
• Lead organizational development work on structures, roles, reporting lines, staffing models, and culture
Project, process, risk, and performance
• Plan and manage HR projects, such as recruitment drives, staff transitions, and HR system rollouts
• Map HR processes, including recruitment, onboarding, payroll, performance management, and separation, and recommend streamlined procedures
• Identify and assess HR risks, including key person dependency, payroll fraud, labor disputes, and safeguarding
Specialized assessments
• Assess HR internal controls, including segregation of duties over recruitment, payroll, and personnel records
• Review the compliance of HR policies, contracts, and practices, in line with US federal and state labor law, national labor codes, collective agreements, and social security rules in the countries of operation
• Develop or update HR manuals, employee handbooks, job descriptions, and HR SOPs, when included in the engagement
Coordination, reporting, and implementation guidance
• Plan the HR work with the Engagement Lead and CPA Expert, including objectives, methodology, timeline, and division of work among consultants
• Provide the Engagement Lead with clear and concise findings, risk ratings, and recommendations, subject to sign-off by The BKG CEO
• Develop practical, prioritized, and time-bound HR implementation guidelines, and when required, oversee and advise client staff on implementation; client staff remain responsible for carrying out the work
• Depending on the scope, coordinate a small team of BKG consultants, such as the HR Consultant and HR Officer
• When engaged for this purpose, advise The BKG on HR matters and contribute to proposals, client scoping, and the development of HR and staffing advisory services
